jeanne williamson ostroff: wordle paintings

Jeanne Williamson Ostroff works with patterns and boundaries inspired by construction fences, charts of her daily walks, and Wordle puzzles from the New York Times. She uses a combination of printing; painting; collage; and stitching on vintage tablecloths and other fabric to create mixed-media pieces that range in size from 6 inches to 35 feet.

Jeanne has a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art (University of the Arts), where she majored in Fibers/Crafts, and a MSAEd in Art Education from the Massachusetts College of Art.  She has attended residencies at the Millay Colony for the Arts, Austerlitz, NY, and the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT. Her work has been exhibited widely in galleries, museums, and online. Licensed prints have been available at Crate & Barrel, Anthropologie, Annie Selke, and Pottery Barn. Her work is in private, corporate, and hospitality collections, and has been published in books and magazines.

Tracy Bennett, the New York Times Wordle Editor (who, weather permitting will be at the opening) says, “I am fascinated by these mixed media interpretations of Wordle answers. We humans create meaning and find beauty in seemingly random sequences that form intriguing patterns. Artists connect images, gestures, colors and, by doing so, connect to others, communicating a truth. I am thrilled that there's an artist like Jeanne Williamson Ostroff making Wordles (and more!) into such compelling art.”
